After recently relocating to the fabulous Gold Coast, I found myself innately drawn to find a Community to be part of. That got me thinking why was that? Why do we need Communities?
Quite simply, as humans, Community is paramount to our general well-being and deep-rooted happiness. Evolutionarily, living in communities provided safety, shared resources, and collective knowledge. Neuroscientifically, our brains are wired for social connection, with specific areas dedicated to processing social interactions.
So, what makes a Community? A Community can be any size, but at its essence, it’s about a shared sense of connection, belonging, and mutual support. It involves a network of relationships where people come together around common interests, values, goals, or experiences.
It’s no surprise then, that being part of a Community offers numerous benefits that enrich our lives. Here are a few:
*Sense of belonging
*Support and encouragement
*Shared resources and knowledge
*Opportunities for growth and learning
*Social interaction and friendship
*Shared goals and collective action
*Cultural and identity preservation
*Safety and security
*Joy of giving back
Each of these benefits resonates with me deeply and reinforces my quest for Community.
Next to be explored, “what are the challenges and considerations that come with being part of a community?”
