Community Spirit of Christmas

Community Spirit of Christmas

With the festive season well and truly underway and the countdown to Christmas/New Year holidays reaching single digits the spotlight on community reflects more like a kaleidoscope.

The Holiday period can be a time of joy and togetherness for some, of hard work to keep the country running for others, for some it highlights precious people lost and loneliness but behind it all is the constant of the The Volunteer.

I was at the recent Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce Christmas party and couldn’t help but notice a number of Volunteering Gold Coast shirts amongst the crowd.

In wanting to find out more about Volunteering Gold Coast it happened that I approached t-shirt wearing Volunteer Gold Coast CEO Brad Cooper who was deservedly s proud of all the organization has achieved and continues to do.

Established in 1998 VGC has vastly expanded its services since but one of those services Brad was most proud of was their beach access program. Through mats and a variety of wheelchairs VGC realise one of their missions they are most passionate about and that is to “help make beaches more inclusive and accessible to everyone”, so apt for the Gold Coast.

Volunteers transcend across many different communities but they weave a common thread that binds a community, strengthens a community and grows the positive benefits of a community.

As we Deck The Halls and cheerily know there will be no White Christmas or Frosty The Snowman let’s remember to give thanks to our many Volunteers, some who in the unique spirit of Australian Christmas will be Making Gravy for those in need.

Happy Holidays 🎄✨🙂
